What a literal pain it is to wake up with a sore throat. This is one symptom that most will probably agree is pretty miserable. Luckily, this symptom is usually fleeting. Of course, if you are currently in the throes of a sore throat you may be wondering what could be causing it and what you can do to ease your symptoms. What could be bringing about my sore throat?
There is a pretty extensive list of problems that could be causing you to deal with a sore throat. In many cases, a virus is to blame. These viruses can range of the simple common cold to measles or mononucleosis. It’s less likely that a bacterial infection could bring about your sore throat but it’s not impossible. In fact, the most common type of bacterial infection that causes sore throats is strep.
Allergies and environmental pollutants could also be irritating your throat and causing pain and discomfort. Perhaps you suffer from nasty pollen or mold allergy attacks. This could easily cause a lingering or long-term sore throat. In some situations, those with gastrointestinal issues like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) may find that they deal with a persistent sore throat accompanied by heartburn.
We are more susceptible to sore throats when our immunity is lower, as our bodies are not as efficient at being able to fight infections when they attack. If you are under a lot of stress, if you are undergoing chemotherapy or if you aren’t getting enough sleep then you may be more prone to sore throats.
