Jesse W. Tan, MD, FACS
Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor in Long Beach, CA
Dr. Jesse W. Tan is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in head and
neck surgery/otolaryngology. He is the medical director of the Tan Head &
Neck Center in Long Beach. He is also the Chief of Staff at MemorialCare
Long Beach Medical Center, where he serves as the officer-in-charge of all
hospital physicians and medical departments.
Dr. Tan grew up in Cypress, CA and attended Mater Dei High School in Santa
Ana, CA. He completed a degree in Psychology at the
University of California
, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he graduated with honors (Cum Laude). Dr. Tan
then proceeded to obtain his medical degree at the
Albany Medical College
in Albany, New York. There he graduated with honors (Cum Laude) and
finished in the top 5% of his class. During medical school, he was
inducted into the prestigious
Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society
for his scholastic excellence.
After medical school, Dr. Tan returned to Los Angeles to complete a 6-year
head and neck surgery/otolaryngology residency program at the UCLA Medical
Center. At UCLA, Dr. Tan received training to operate on the most
difficult and complex head and neck tumors that were referred to UCLA from
other institutions. In addition, he received comprehensive training in all
aspects of head and neck surgery/otolaryngology, including facial plastic
and reconstructive surgery and treatment of diseases of the ears, nose,
and throat. During residency, he also performed one year of basic science
and clinical research in the management of locally advanced thyroid
cancer. Dr. Tan served as chief resident in head and neck
surgery/otolaryngology at UCLA in 2003. Currently, he is an assistant
clinical professor in head and neck surgery at the UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Tan currently practices in Long Beach. In his duties as an attending
head and neck surgeon at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Tan
instructs the surgery residents from the UC Irvine-Long Beach Memorial
surgery program on the proper surgical management of head and neck tumors
and related surgeries. He has given multiple lectures for the Long Beach
medical community, including several talks for the Medicine Grand Rounds
series at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. He is active in medical student
and resident education and continues to write scientific papers with the
affiliated UCLA and UC Irvine university programs.
Dr. Tan was voted as one of America’s Top Surgeons in 2008 by the Consumer
Research Council of America. He is a member of the
American Academy of Otolarygology-Head and Neck Surgery
and is board-certified in the specialty. He is also a
Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
. He served as Chairman of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery at Long
Beach Memorial from 2008-2013. He was then elected Chairman of the
Department of Surgery from 2014-2017 and oversaw all surgical divisions at
the medical center during that time. He was a member of the Medical
Executive Committee at the hospital from 2018-2019. Currently, he is the
Chief of Staff at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. In this role, he
serves as the officer-in-charge of all hospital physicians and medical
departments, and he provides leadership and guidance to the hospital
administration and the Board of Trustees.
Jesus K. Tan, MD, FACS
Dr. Jesus Tan completed his surgical residency in otolaryngology-head
and neck surgery at the
Medical University of South Carolina
. He has been in private practice in Long Beach, CA since 1981. He is
board-certified in his specialty of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery
and has comprehensive expertise in all aspects of the specialty. He served
as Chairman of the Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at
Long Beach Memorial from 2000-2002. He is a Fellow of the
American College of Surgeons.
Rose J. Eapen, MD, FACS
Dr. Rose Eapen is an experienced, compassionate, and family-centered
pediatric otolaryngologist. Dr. Eapen completed medical school at
Duke University
, and she went on to complete residency and fellowship training at the
University of North Carolina. She then went on to be an attending
pediatric otolaryngologist at the Duke Medical Center in North Carolina
for 5 years. During her academic tenure, she performed extensive research
in allergy and hearing loss. She has presented her research at national
ENT meetings, and she has also published in many prominent otolaryngology
journals. She has inspired numerous medical students and residents to
pursue careers in Otolaryngology. She recently relocated with her family
to Southern California and now practices at the Tan Head & Neck Center.
She is an expert in the diagnosis and management of pediatric
otolaryngology disorders.
Larry Le, PA-C
Larry Le, PA-C is a certified Physician Assistant with an extensive
background in otolaryngology. He was born and raised in Southern
California. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Biology at the
University of California, Riverside and graduated with honors. Through medical volunteering, he
discovered he had a passion for helping others which led him to pursue
medicine as a lifelong career.
After college, he continued his career at the
Loma Linda University, Head & Neck Surgery/ENT clinic where he worked closely with several
subspecialized physicians for several years. He then went on to complete
the MSPAS program at
California Baptist University
in Riverside, California during which he continued to receive multiple
merits from training physicians and preceptors for his work ethic,
kindness, and dedication. His future aspirations include inspiring and
educating future medical professionals.
Larry now practices at the Tan Head & Neck Center where he has received
additional specialized ENT training with Dr. Tan. He can evaluate, treat,
and manage disorders of the ears, nose and throat with expertise.
Michelle Bernal, Director of Audiology
Michelle Bernal is a Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser in the state of
California. She obtained her undergraduate degree from California State
University, Long Beach. She has expertise in performing hearing
evaluations and recommending the best hearing aid options for patients
with hearing loss and tinnitus. Michelle is dedicated to treating hearing
and communication needs to preserve a high quality of life for every
patient. She has been helping members of her community with their hearing
health care needs since 2016.
Kensuke Oishi, Speech and Language Pathologist
Kensuke Oishi, SLP is an experienced speech and language pathologist. He
supervises and performs in-office swallow studies and laryngeal video
examinations at the Tan Head & Neck Center. He has extensive experience
working with patients with dysphagia and voice disorders, and he also helps
patients who have side effects from radiation for head and neck cancer. He
is a faculty member at the USC School of Medicine in the department of
speech and language pathology. He previously worked at Long Beach Memorial
Medical Center for several years.
Ken’s areas of expertise including endoscopic examination of swallowing and
laryngeal video examinations, and he has extensive knowledge about the
interpretation of these detailed studies.
He is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association, and he has
been a board-certified clinical specialist for swallowing disorders since
2011. He is fluent in Japanese, and he enjoys participating in fitness
programs and outdoor activities during his free time.
